what is reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique that reduces stress, helps the body to relax and promotes healing. It is works through the palms of the therapist’s hands. It is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and it is this energy that keeps us alive. If our life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more able to be happy and healthy.

A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. It treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and it always creates a beneficial effect. It also works well with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

The ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an attunement given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of life force energy to improve one’s health and enhance the quality of life. [Source: The International Center for Reiki Training]

how can reiki help?

Reiki is a technique that aids the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation. Because of this, Reiki promotes healing and health. The Reiki system is comprised of techniques for transmitting this subtle energy through the hands, eyes or chakras into the human subtle energy system. Reiki restores energy balance and vitality by relieving the physical and emotional effects of unreleased stress. It gently and effectively opens blocked meridians, nadas and chakras, and clears the energy bodies, leaving one feeling relaxed and at peace. [source: Laurelle Gaia]

describe a session

In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts about 60 minutes.

Depending on my clients’ requirements I combine Reiki with a guided visualisation meditation which you can use at anytime. This teaches you to clear your own chakras and strengthen the flow of your energy bodies whenever you need it.
